The week of June 24th was the last build week before Muncie 70.3 for the Tri Tornadoes. Five of the Tri Tornadoes, Blake Briggs, Alan Coppinger, Matt Pierce, Heather Simpson and Coach Todd are all competing at Muncie 70.3 on July 13th. This last week of build was focused on the long Saturday Race Preparation workout. Our weekday workouts consisted of 15 min of biking on our neighborhood course with a couple of FAST paced efforts to stress the legs. The run was a consistent paced 45 min transition run to get to those legs ready to run after a FAST effort on the bike. The Saturday workout was a LONG BRICK that consisted of 36 to 72 miles of solid paced bike effort followed by a strong paced hill loop run of 4 to 6 miles.
This year’s weather is totally different than last year. In 2012, Indianapolis was trapped in a high heat pattern that saw temperatures over 90 for many days in a row and a number of days over 100. The Muncie Race in 2012 was shortened to an approximate Olympic distance race due to the concerns over heat related health issues. This year is totally different. We are seeing temps in the middle 60’s in the mornings and highs in the upper 70’s and lower 80’s. At this point, it is possible that the Muncie 70.3 race will be wetsuit legal due to the fact that the lake is currently around 75 degrees and the highs for next week are in the mid 80’s and the lows are in the Mid to Upper 60’s. It should be a GREAT Day to Race at the Muncie 70.3!!
So for the week of June 24th the Tri Tornadoes Swam 58,566 yards, Biked 638 miles and Ran 140 Miles. Our Totals are now up to 966,302 yards Swum, 8,218 miles Biked and 3,416 miles Ran.
We also DRANK…580 ounces or a little more than 4.5 gallons of Chocolate Milk.
